South Field Pumphouse Is Up!

Well, (a deep subject, I know) after last winters utility upgrades (putting in city water, and electrical lines under the road to the South field, and extending our main irrigation line) we have finally come to our next step: building a pump house in the South field, which will hold our pump, pressure tank and electrical panels. Its a beautiful little building, that will be covered head to toe in cedar shakes (which were salvaged from a previous project).

We held a workparty mid March and built everything we could in the workshop (trusses, walls, etc) while it was raining out on the farm. Then, when our next sunny stretch came, we sprang into action and hauled all the pieces out there and assembled them. A big thanks goes out to Alan Carpenter, whose expertise and patience made this a very smooth job. And thank you to all the farmers who helped organize this event, and build the structure. Many hands make for light work!

Next steps in the plan: install the electrical panels in the South field pump house, install stand pipes for irrigation.

Bioengineering Workshop - March 10 & 11

The Fraser Valley Watersheds Coalition and the Fraser Valley Regional District have organized a Bioengineering Workshop here in Chilliwack. The on-site workshop (on day two) will be held here at Yarrow Ecovillage, working on the Stewart Creek Restoration area out on the farm land. There is still time to sign up, I believe, if you are interested in attending this informative workshop!
